Kasmanda Palace Hotel

Kasmanda Palace Hotel Mussoorie, Uttaranchal

One of the few heritage hotels in Uttaranchal, Hotel Kasmanda Palace stands elegantly at an altitude of 7000 feet in Mussoorie, 200 metres uphill on Mall road. What lends the hotel an English old world charm are its white interiors. The hotel gleams in contrast to the surrounding greenery in summers and matches the fluffy snow during winters making a picture perfect setting.

What stands today as a prestigious heritage hotel of Uttaranchal was originally a part of Christ church complex that was built here in 1836 by captain Rennie Tailor of Bengal Engineers. It was later turned into a summer retreat palace of the Royal Kasmanda family in 1915. It was only later that it turned into a boutique hotel. Till date, it is managed by the royal family.

The architecture of the palace is Anglo-French style though the white colour might give it that English feel. Three acres of gardens compliment the structure making it a picture book scenery. The hotel stands facing south, looking just as majestic as it could be overlooking the Doon Valley and the Mussoorie town below.

The Interiors - Reminding You Of The Bygone Era

One might form an opinion about the palace looking it from outside that the interiors would be all modern English style. However, an entirely different world awaits you inside. The 150 year old heritage and legacy come alive in front of you with the skillfully done interiors.

There are 15 heritage rooms in the hotel, huge and spacious. The big rooms and even bigger bathrooms, all elegantly done are sure to make you feel like a king. It is as if you are reliving your life in a different era. Its antiqueness blended with luxury and modernity, that truly defines the stay at hotel. Lending the hotel its share of regality are the pictures of tiger hunts and old Lithographs in the rooms. The rooms are furnished with modern day amenities.

Apart from the rooms there are two large dining rooms and a room filled with shikhar trophies.

There is a regally set dining hall. Delectable cuisine ranging from continental to Chinese, not to forget the local mountain cuisine, all is served here. Taking your dinner here in the dining room on the huge dining table is an experience in itself. Apart from that, the hotel also has restaurant which serves a range of cuisines.

The best recreation in Kasmanda is to enjoy the serenity. The surroundings so uncluttered, so pure, away from the crowds, the spread out gardens, all are sure to enchant you, no matter which season you visit. The summers are warm, green all around with flowers blooming in the garden, the winters see a sheet of snow covering the surroundings. At this time the palace hotel looks like a scene just out of a fairytale.

For its little guest, the hotel has a play ground and horse riding facility. The hotel also organises day trips to Sir George Everest Estate and Nag tibba. One can also undertake short and long treks with help from hotel authorities. White water rafting, paragliding, guided tours to Rajaji National Park, bird watching trips, trips to Gun Hill, Kempty falls, all these trips are organised by the hotel.

More Fun Trips

The hotel is located in Mussoorie, one of the most famous hill stations in Northern India. Just 200 metres downhill starts the mall, the hub of tourists. Other attractions around are Nag Tibba, Lal Tibba, Gun Hill, Camel's Back point, Kempty Falls.

One can also take excursions to Dehradun, just 36 kilometres from here or you can take excursions to Rajaji National Park or Dhanaulti hills (25 kms).
