The Most Well Planned City

Chandigarh is the first and without a doubt the best planned city of India. Designed by the famous French architect Le Corbusier, Chandigarh serves as a capital to two states Haryana and Punjab. However, it is governed by neither of the two and is recognized as a different Union Territory, controlled directly by government of India. You will feel the difference the moment you enter this beautiful city. The roads are all clean, the design of roads and that of buildings on either side are flawless. The well laid out sectors are also quite helpful for tourist as it is not tough to find an address here in Chandigarh. It is also among the greenest cities in India. From the outside, Chandigarh is quite modern and westernized, but the culture that is prevalent here never fails to take you back to yesteryears. Here one can experience the true Punjabi culture in all its traditions with a touch of today.

Situated on the northern side of India, Chandigarh experiences extreme winters and warm summers. The best time to visit Chandigarh is from October to March.

How To Reach Amritsar

By Air

Situated 11 Km from the main city, Chandigarh has its own airport. It is connected to Delhi by daily flights from Delhi. There are flights from other cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata. There is a weekly from Leh as well. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways are the major flight operators to and from Chandigarh. From Airport, there are buses to all parts of the city. You can also hire auto rickshaws and taxis.

By Rail

Chandigarh recieves good numbers of express and passenger trains from main cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata, Bikaner and Jodhpur. Railways stations is just 7 km from the city center.

By Road

Chandigarh is one of the most well connected cities in entire Northern India. Apart from bus connection to all the cities of Punjab state, there are regular inter state buses to Haryana, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. There are transport buses as well as luxury coaches that ply between these destinations and Chandigarh.

Local Transportation

Buses are the main mode of transport in Chandigarh. The frequency and service of the buses is quite appreciable. Other modes of transport here are auto rickshaws and taxis.
