Being the birthplace of Buddhism, Bihar has an important place in not only India's culture but of entire world's. Millions of Buddhist pilgrims from around the world come to the sacred town of Bodhgaya to offer their prayers in the famous Mahabodhi Temple and to worship the Bodhi Tree under which Prince Siddhartha attained enlightenment and became Lord Buddha. The unique culture of Bihar is also reverberated through its people and the world famous Madhubani Painting that has its reference even in the epic Ramayana.

Being ruled by some of the mightiest and greatest dynasties, Bihar has quite an embellished and elaborated history. Still basking in the glory of its past, Patna, the now capital of Bihar, is remembered by the name 'Patliputra', which was the former center of power. Patna today can be clearly demarcated into two worlds; one that is fast changing and keeping pace with modern era, and the other that still lazes through life, has that olden time charm and a visit to this section feels like a virtual walk through the past. Bihar is not short of names. Along with other names Bihar is also called the 'Center of Learning' since the 5th century. It was at that time the legendary Nalanda University came up. It was the first international university that had students from all parts of the world. It had around 10000 students and nearly 2000 teachers.
